AMYAA NGO fights COVID19 initiatives reaches out to remote villages of Arunachal Pradesh
The second wave of COVID pandemic in India has unleashed an unprecedented public health crisis caused due to the large-scale spread of COVID infection in all parts of the country. As on 12th August, 2021 India reports 32077706 cases and 429669 covid related deaths in different parts of the country. The health system, particularly in the large cities and urban areas, is overwhelmed by the incessant stream of COVID patients seeking medical assistance and supplemented oxygen. Therefore we must spread the message of adherence to COVID appropriate behavior in the communities along with supporting the ramping up of the public health infrastructure to prevent the crisis. In this context, AMYAA launched AMYAA fights COVID19 initiative which seeks to directly support Government, Medical Team, Police Development and Grassroots based frontline workers, COVID affected patients through daily follow up by way of counseling, their health status updates and advise on adherence to COVID appropriate behavior during their home quarantines.

 
Since the outbreak of second wave COVID pandemic in March, 2021 Team AMYAA stood firm to reach to the unreached individuals and families worse affected by the pandemic across different districts of Eastern Arunachal Pradesh. The launching of AMYAA COVID19 initiatives started from Roing, the headquarter of Lower Dibang Valley District, Arunachal Pradesh. AMYAA NGO had the experience of doing humanitarian service during the first wave in 2020 thus, based on the experience, the communities worse affected by COVID crisis were mainly migrant labourers who hails from ASSAM, BIHAR, WEST BENGAL and UTTAR PRADESH. Their daily sources of income were affected and they were left to survive on their bare minimum. The other categories of special human persons whose normal existence were affected by COVID pandemic were the Aged, the Persons with Disabilities, the Widows, the Children who lost their parents due to COVID, the socio-economically poor families, Children from poorer families who lost the opportunity to go to schools and have neither books nor suitable home ambient to study. AMYAA reached out to these most needy individuals and families who are not normally identified by either Government or organizations to be listed as beneficiaries of emergency relief aids.


AMYAA fights COVID19  initiatives focused on Dry Ration and Medical Kits for 14000 poor and vulnerable families to ensure that food and nutrition security for 10 days. Mass awareness campaign supporting 3600 adolescent girls, boys, young women and minors to raise awareness on how to prevent the spread of COVID including tackling stigma and myths surrounding vaccinations. Protection of COVID warriors by providing 10000 face mask, 900 Oximeters, 600 medical kits, and 1200 dry ration kits the ASHA and Aganwadi Workers to enable them to continue delivering services to COVID patients. Thanks to AZIM PREMJI PHILANTHROPIC INITIATIVES for supporting 1800 needy families through Dry Ration Kits, to CRYPTO RELIEF for sponsoring 4600 Dry Ration Kits, 2000 medical kits and 400 Oximeters, to QUEST ALLIANCE for sponsoring 400 to vulnerable families, to NINE is MINE for providing 30 Dry Ration Kits to 28 most vulnerable children of daily wagers and 2 minors who comes under persons with disabilities in Lower Dibang Valley District. The sponsorship of CRYPTO RELIEF, support of UMEED PROJECT and Grassroots United NGOs has been the main driving force in enabling AMYAA to reach out to the targeted needy beneficiaries across 5 districts of Arunachal Pradesh.


AMYAA has been instrumental in providing CRYPTO RELIEF sponsored 46 Oxygen concentrators (OCs) to 3 Districts namely, 4 OCs for Anjaw, 15 OCs for Changlang and 27 OCs for Lower Dibang Valley District of the state of Arunachal Pradesh. These OCs to be installed in different District Hospitals, Community Health Centres and Primary Health Centres located in remote and tough terrain locations of the regions. These high-flow oxygen concentrator machines would enable medical centres to support COVID patients who require supplemental oxygen.


During this second wave under AMYAA fights COVID19 initiatives AMYAA reached out 115 villages across 5 Districts of Anjaw, Changlang, Namsai, Lower Dibang Valley, Dibang Valley and East Siang Districts of Arunachal Pradesh. Amidst challenging means of transportation, rough roads, tough terrains, inclement monsoon weather conditions team AMYAA covered the remotest villages in the middle belt under Arzoo Circle and reached as far as Acheso village the last village of Dibang Valley District near China border to Aoholi Village of East Siang District.


AMYAA’s covid19 interventions were accomplished through a joint effort with strong support and collaborations with different stakeholders such as Local Government Agencies, concern District Administration, District Medical Departments, Civil Society Organizations, Donors, Student Unions and their representatives, Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) Members, Community Based Organizations (CBOs).
